Jazz invite locals to camp

They did not get drafted by an NBA team Tuesday night, but the pro hoops hopes of a local college trio remain alive.

Star Utah Valley State College guard Ronnie Price has an offer to join the Jazz's Rocky Mountain Revue summer-league team, and, through his agent, is weighing it against other apparent offers, Jazz player personnel director Walt Perrin said Wednesday.

Utah State forward Spencer Nelson has accepted an offer to the Jazz's Revue camp in July, Perrin said, and the Jazz were waiting Wednesday to hear back on a similar offer to Weber State big man Lance Allred.

"First and foremost," Perrin said, "I like to give local guys a chance who I think have a shot (at the NBA).

"We also will bring them in to help them have European scouts take a look at them, because a lot of the European scouts come in for the Rocky Mountain Revue — and they take a lot of players from this Revue back overseas."

The six-team Revue — a summer league for NBA rookies, youngsters and free agents — is scheduled July 15-22 at Salt Lake Community College.

Price, a Texas native who averaged 24.3 points per game as a UVSC senior, had the highest hope among the three of getting drafted. He worked out twice for the Jazz, and at least once for other NBA teams, including Detroit and the Los Angeles Clippers.

Nelson also auditioned twice for Utah, and Allred worked out once with the Jazz as well.

The Jazz's 2005 Revue roster also is expected to include 2004 first-round draft choices Kris Humphries and Kirk Snyder, along with '05 picks Deron Williams and Robert Whaley. It remains to be seen if second-round selection C.J. Miles, still eligible to play at the University of Texas, will take part.

With Atlanta and Charlotte also in the Revue field, three members of the University of North Carolina's 2005 national-championship team also should play at SLCC: Marvin Williams, who went No. 2 overall to the Hawks, and new Bobcats Raymond Felton and Sean May.

OFFER COMING: The Jazz are likely to make a qualifying contract offer today to point guard Keith McLeod, basketball operations senior vice president Kevin O'Connor said Wednesday.

If so, McLeod would become a restricted free agent and the Jazz would retain the right to match any offer to him from another team when the NBA's free-agency market opens Friday.

McLeod, undrafted out of Bowling Green, was a part-time Jazz starter this past season.
