Wolf Creek Resort, a real estate development in Eden, Weber County, with a golf course, outdoor pool and other recreational facilities, said Wednesday it bought the nearby Nordic Valley ski area and renamed it Wolf Mountain.
Wolf Creek Resort closed the transaction and took possession of the 450-acre ski hill on June 16 from Ski Associates, a corporation of 30 Utah stockholders. The price wasn't disclosed.
"It rounds out our four-season offerings," Wolf Creek marketing manager Nancy Seraphin said Wednesday.
"It was a great asset and an opportunity for us to expand our winter offerings to be more family focused. We bought a lodging company last year and found we were having difficulty attracting the never-skied or beginning skiers, because they were looking for a more cost-effective experience," she said.
Wolf Mountain will hold lift ticket prices at $20 for adults and $15 for children. The hill offers 1,000 vertical feet of skiing.
Cindy Beger, project manager for Wolf Creek Resort's purchase, said the new owner plans to renovate a barn that serves as a ski lodge, re-contour a parking lot, buy a modern Bombardier snow groomer, look into installing terrain features for snowboarders "and make it a great teaching mountain."
Beger, a former Deer Valley ski instructor, said the ski hill is one of Utah's best for night skiing.
Wolf Creek Resort plans to offer a recreation pass to the ski hill and its other recreational offerings including tennis and racquetball courts for $699 for a family of four. A tubing hill will be part of the mix by the 2006-07 winter.
The new owner considered Nordic Valley valuable for its development potential. The ski area could accommodate 250 residential units, Seraphin said.
