"I think it's kind of split the neighborhood," said Lynn Snow, who lives in Cedar Hills.

"I think there's been some conflict for some people, going back and forth and arguing about things — lots of propaganda, lots of parading," she said. "I think there are some that are pretty fanatical about their views, so I think there could be some sore losers."

Before the vote, city officials said they were glad the election had finally arrived.

"I'll be excited when it's over," said Cedar Hills Councilman Jim Perry. "Whatever the outcome, I think it's going great — great means that our people come out and let their voice be heard and exercise their right to vote, that's really what it's all about."

Mayor Mike McGee said he hopes the city's wounds will heal fairly quickly.

"We're hoping that once the decision is made by the community and the voters at large that everyone will decide to mend fences and fix the bridges that have been burned and be kind and respectful of other people's opinions and get along with one another," he said. "And I think that's probably what will happen."

Councilman James Parker said he expects members of the council will be able to put the matter behind them, despite the fact that various members were campaigning on opposing sides.

"I think we'll all accept the citizens' vote and move forward," he said.
