Ogden pinches way past Casper
"That was a great win right there," manager Juan Bustabad said. "In your mind, you always think you're going to come back. When you're playing good, things like that will go your way."
B.J. Richmond led off the ninth for Ogden with a double but was thrown out at second on a ground ball hit by Jason Mooneyham. James McDonald, who was pinch-hitting, then singled Mooneyham to third with one out. Pinch-runner Shane Justis then scored on a ground ball to first by Juan Rivera by sliding under the catcher's tag.
"That was a great slide," Bustabad said. "That's the only way you could have got through that."
Bustabad said he was not angry at Richmond being thrown out third in the final inning.
"He was aggressive," he said. "I have no problem with that."
Aaron Klusman picked up the win for Ogden by throwing two shutout innings and giving up only three hits.
Neither starting pitcher lasted long enough to qualify for a win. The Rockies pulled Xavier Cedeno after four innings and the Raptors yanked Cody White after 4 2/3 innings.
White gave up three runs on seven hits during his time on the mound.
With the Raptors down a run, Mitchell would score on an Juan Apodaca single in the eighth to tie the game 5-5.
The Raptors first scored in the fourth inning. Trailing 1-0, Jesus Soto, Apodaca and B.J. Richmond each hit RBI singles to Ogden a 3-1 lead.
Casper tied the game in its next at-bat when Cole Garner doubled in two runs with two outs.
Russ Mitchell then gave the Raptors a 4-3 lead with an RBI double in the fifth inning.
The Rockies then regained the lead in the sixth with an RBI single from Luke Sargent and an RBI double from and Radames Nazario to make the score 5-4.
The Rockies led off the scoring with an RBI single from Jesse Brownell in the second inning.
Mitchell and Apodaca each had two RBIs for the Raptors while Jesus Soto, Mitchell, Apodaca and Richmond each had two hits.
All nine of the Casper batters had at least one hit.
Tuesday, it will be Kristopher Krise on the mound for the Raptors against Aneury Rodriguez for the Rockies. The game begins at 7 p.m.
