After working in construction-related fields for some time, Christofer S. Shurian decided in 1996 that it was time to start his own home-remodeling venture.

But he wanted his company, Provo-based Classic Construction Services Inc., to stand out in a crowded industry. So Shurian vowed to practice only the highest industry standards and to make his top goal exceeding the expectations of his customers.

At times, this high-standards approach created challenges, like "grumbling in the ranks" if an employee misunderstood the company's strict quality-control procedures.

But in time, Shurian's approach began to yield its own rewards. From its beginning, when the company consisted of Shurian, his truck and his tools, CCS has grown to a multimillion-dollar, multidivision company that employs more than 50 people.

The emphasis on customer service has driven the company's success, with more than 90 percent of current clients coming to CCS as referrals from past customers. CCS thanks customers for their loyalty with referral gifts.

CCS workers receive rewards, as well, in the form of bonuses and numerous company-sponsored events for employees, their families and subcontractors.

One of Shurian's major roles in the company is to keep an eye on emerging industry trends that could help CCS expand its operations. This focus on new opportunities has led to the company forming its custom cabinet division, as well as moving into the luxury home-building trade.
