Julia Marie Bachison, 22, is the new Miss Utah 2005.

Bachison, Miss Utah State Fair, was crowned Saturday night at Abravanel Hall after a week of competition. She attends Weber State University.

She beat 58 contestants who met with judges, modeled evening and swimsuit wear and performed a talent number. They also were judged on their service platform.

Her attendants are Lacey Griffin, Miss Cedar Breaks; Lizzy Marchbanks, Miss Pleasant Grove; Marci McKay, Miss Sanpete County; and Desirae Ball, Miss Southern Utah University.

Rounding out the top 10 finalists are Justi Excell, Miss South Jordan; Ashley Conley, Miss Roy; Tiffani Christie, Miss Utah Valley State College; Emily Hyde, Miss Rocky Mountain, and Shandra Blake, Miss Washington County.

Non-finalist awards went to Hollie Jones, Miss Utah County; Kalei Poulson, Miss Richfield; Betsy Passmore, Miss Utah Valley; and Sara Jane McKinney, Miss American Fork.

Hawkins said Bachison will compete in the Miss America 2005 Scholarship Pageant in Atlantic City, which may be in November rather than September.
