Sherri Wittwer is new executive director of the Utah Chapter of the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill, chapter officials announced.
Wittwer has served as the chapter's acting executive director after the death of former director Vicki Cottrell in an auto accident in April. She has previously served as director of development with NAMI and has assisted in numerous state projects. Raising funds to support those afflicted with mental disorders in Utah was one of Wittwer's main priorities.
Gigi Arrington, NAMI Utah board president, said Wittwer possesses the necessary skills to head the organization and that she has a passion to lead it to new heights. The NAMI board's vote for Wittwer was a unanimous decision.
The grass-roots organization is dedicated to improving the quality of life for those affected by mental illness. Through support, education, advocacy and research, NAMI works with patients and their families throughout the state.
