BOUNTIFUL Bountiful/Davis Art Center is now offering 14 classes and workshops from June 20 through Aug. 1.
This summer's offerings include a variety of children's classes and workshops as well as instruction in watercolor, figure drawing, printmaking, collage and ancestor photo reverse transfer.
Classes for children and youths include the following:Drawing for children, taught by Barbara Gustavsen. In this class students will learn to draw what they see while incorporating the principles and elements of art. Basic drawing skills will be taught with an emphasis on "blocking out," along with the use value. Students will experiment with both a variety of drawing pencils and colored pencils.
Watercolor for children, also taught by Gustavsen. Students will explore a variety of watercolor techniques and create their own paintings.
Printmaking for children, taught by Sunny Magee. Students will have fun in this class exploring three exciting printmaking projects: mono print, relief print and paste paper. They will learn about positive and negative shapes, additive versus subtractive printing techniques, and special ink effects. Students should go to class with an apron or paint shirt.
"Art is Elementary A," taught by Jan James. "Your children will love this class as they explore six sessions, learning the basic elements and concepts of art in a fun, creative atmosphere," James said.
Students will work in various media as they learn horizon line, color wheel, texture, shadows, depth and more. Visit BDAC to preview art in the foyer by students in this class. Examples of famous and professional artwork will be studied along with each lesson."Art is Elementary B" will be taught by James. This class is for students who have had "Art is Elementary A" or are more advanced. Students will work in various media as they learn shading, emphasis, reflection and one-point perspective. Examples of famous and professional artwork will be studied along with each lesson.
Children's painting, taught by James. This children's art class emphasizes fun as students learn brush strokes and painting in a variety of media. Close-up and distance, texture, perception of spaces, edge, relationships and contrast are all concepts that will be explored with brush-stroke technique.
Children's watercolor, taught by Rebecca Hartvigsen. In this watercolor class the children will have fun learning about mixing colors, simple techniques and exercises to create a painting of their desire.
