University of Utah officials have selected Joyce Ogburn as director of the U. Marriott Library.
Ogburn was most recently the associate director of libraries, resources and collections management services at the University of Washington.
Ogburn was chosen after a nationwide search to replace Sarah Michalak, who left the U. to become university librarian and provost for university libraries at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
U. President Michael Young said he is "delighted" Ogburn will be taking charge of one of the largest library collections in the U.S. The U. library houses nearly three million volumes, including 25,444 journals in electronic and print formats.
The Utah Legislature this past session allocated $48 million in state funds for a renovation project at the library that includes seismic upgrades and a new high-tech book retrieval system. Construction began earlier this month and is expected to take three years.
