A man who carjacked a couple's vehicle at gunpoint while being chased by police was named this week's Public Enemy No. 1 by the Salt Lake Metro Gang Unit.
Nam Le, 17, is a member of a violent Asian street gang whom detectives have been looking for some time, according to the gang unit.
West Valley police and gang detectives were chasing Le on foot on May 19 when he threatened a couple with a gun near 4300 South Redwood Road and took their car and then nearly hit a pursuing officer as he drove away, according to a statement from the gang unit.
In addition to the carjacking, Nam is wanted for auto theft, felony fleeing and possession of a firearm by a restricted person. He also has an extensive juvenile criminal history and a juvenile fugitive warrant out for his arrest for allegedly running away from a juvenile facility in southern Utah, according to gang detectives.
Anyone with information on Le is asked to call the gang unit at 743-7000.
A $1,000 reward is being offered for information leading to Le's arrest and conviction by the Salt Lake Area Gang Project.
