This year's Days of '47/Deseret Morning News Landscape Art Show, "2005 Color of the Land," will again demonstrate the technical prowess of Utah's artists as well as their imaginative interpretation of the land.
The more than 100 artworks juried into the show will be on display in the Nauvoo and Bountiful rooms of the Joseph Smith Memorial Building from July 18 through 25; all paintings will be hung on sturdy white panels.
This year's winner of the Purchase Award will receive from $1,000 to $5,000, depending on the medium and size of the work. This gives the Deseret Morning News the opportunity to diversify its collection, purchasing smaller pieces of various mediums, such as prints, works in graphite, collage, etc.
First-, second- and third-place winners will receive cash awards of $1,000, $800 and $600 respectively. This year, two People's Choice Awards (one for each of the two exhibition rooms) will receive $200 each. Five noncash honorable mentions will also be awarded.
Jurors for this year's show are Sandy Brunvand, Karen Horne and Jared Sanders. (For biographical information on jurors, see exhibit entry form.)
Entry forms for the competition/art show are now available at local art galleries and museums throughout the state. Forms are also available online at www.deseretnews.com, and at the newspaper's office, 30 E. 100 South, weekdays from 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
"2005 Color of the Land" is open to all Utah artists 18 and older, working in all two-dimensional mediums except photography. For more information, call the Deseret Morning News marketing department at 236-6062.
