James Lee Sorenson, chief executive of Sorenson Communications, recently was recognized for his contributions to the deaf community with the 2005 Business Partner of the Year Award.
The award was based on recent contributions by Sorenson Communications, which included a $250,000 donation to the 2007 Deaflympic Winter Games. Gallaudet University received $5 million, establishing a research center devoted to deaf people's language, culture, history and community.
Sorenson Communications also is known for a video relay service device that allows deaf and hard-of-hearing people to communicate with the hearing world.
