Water polo finals to be decided today

The Division I boys and girls high school water polo tournament began Monday, and the championship games will be today at the Murray Park Center.

The title matches will be at 4:30 p.m. for the girls and at 5:30 p.m. for the boys.

The Kearns boys team and the Skyline girls team have already advanced to the championship game in the double-elimination tournament. The losers' bracket semifinals were played Thursday.

The top four seeded teams are the only teams remaining for both the boys and girls.

For the boys, Skyline, Cyprus and Hunter were still alive. Skyline played the winner of Cyprus and Hunter, and the winner will play Kearns in the championship game.

For the girls, Kearns, Murray and Hunter still had a chance. Kearns faced the winner of Murray and Hunter and the winner will play Skyline in the title match.

Kearns entered the tournament as the top-seeded team from the boys side while Skyline is the top-seeded girls team.

In the boys winners bracket semifinal game, Kearns defeated Skyline 12-11 in sudden-death overtime. The same two schools provided another thriller in the same game on the girls side with Skyline winning 5-4.
