Bountiful art center to display works by 8
'Pieces of Eight' exhibit opens today, runs through June 10
BOUNTIFUL Bountiful/Davis Art Center presents a new exhibit featuring eight artists titled "Pieces of Eight." It opens today with a reception from 7-9 p.m. The exhibit continues through June 10.
The featured artists are: Joyce Baron, Provo, waterbased medium including acrylics, transparent and opaque watercolors, inks and collage materials painted on canvas, clayboard and watercolor paper. She also creates "wearable" art.
Laura Boardman, Salt Lake City, sky and landscape paintings reflect the study of color, atmosphere, weather, clouds, skies and urban and rural landscape.
Linnie Brown, Salt Lake City, works in mixed media. The artworks in this series are based on the idea of transforming household objects into fossils. She chose items like audiotapes that have become virtually extinct. The titles for the pieces are mock nomenclature (ferocious 'Proctor Silex') and suggest what someone in the distant future might name these fictitious fossils upon discovering them.
Sean Coulson, Park City, works in cyanotype prints from negatives the same size as the prints. The procedure is known as contact printing, meaning that the negative is placed directly onto the photo paper and exposed.
Karleen Logan, West Jordan, works in oil. The sensitive landscape and still life paintings are diminutive and make good use of light and clarity of color.
K.C. Muscolino, Salt Lake City, works in digital art creating an emphasis on emotional messages and layers of visual information.
Susan Plouzek, West Jordan, works in mixed media. Her abstract images have been in numerous shows throughout the Intermountain area. She will be the featured artist for Celebration of Art and Soup in 2006.
Eric Thompson, Salt Lake City, works in oil and watercolor. He paints a variety of subject matter from landscapes to the human figure. He is influenced by Wyeth, Hopper and Homer.
BDAC is pleased to present this contemporary exhibit of eight artists, varying in style and content. There is no admission charge to view BDAC exhibits.
