The Division II high school water polo championships will be held today and Saturday at the Kearns Oquirrh Park Fitness Center, featuring boys and girls teams from seven schools.

Championship games will be Saturday at 4 p.m. for the girls and 5 p.m. for the boys.

"There have been lots of close games already," tournament director Brad Peercy said. "There's always a lot of cheering at these games."

In both the boys and girls leagues, Cedar City and Tooele are the top two seeds going into the tournament.

"It looks like Tooele and Cedar City are the two biggest contenders," Peerce said. "But I would not be surprised if other teams contend."

The top six teams in the regular-season final standings advanced to the tournament. Cedar City, Tooele, Jordan, West Jordan and Bear River each sent both their boys and girls teams. The Canyon View boys team and the Weber girls team will also compete.

The games will be played in an outdoor pool.

"The weather looks like it's going to be pretty good, so it should be an exciting weekend," Peercy said.

The fitness center is located at 5624 S. 4800 West in Kearns.
