MEN'S TENNIS: Three members of the University of Utah men's tennis team were named to the 2005 All-Mountain West Conference Team. Junior Tomasz Grzyb picked up all-conference singles honors, while Utah doubles duo of sophomore Miron Mann and freshman Zach Ganger earned doubles honors.
WOMEN'S TENNIS: Utah women's tennis players Liz Ferris and Emily Kwok were named to the 2005 All-Mountain West Conference singles team. Ferris, native of Anaheim, Calif., led the Utes at the No. 1 singles position, compiling an 18-12 overall record and a 14-9 mark in the dual season. Kwok joined the Utah squad in January from Richmond, British Columbia. She compiled a 14-11 singles record in her first season. The Utes finished 2005 with a 14-3 overall record.
BYU
WOMEN'S TENNIS: With the winning bid to host the regional, the newly crowned Mountain West Conference Champs and No. 21-ranked BYU women's tennis team will get one last chance to play in front of their home-town crowd.
The Cougars, who got an automatic bid for winning the Mountain West Conference Championship last weekend, will host No. 36 Sacramento State, Niagara and No. 15 Baylor this Friday and Saturday.
Utah Valley
MEN'S GOLF: Utah Valley State sophomore golfer, Nic van Vuuren was named to the first team Division I All-Independent team on Monday as voted by sports information directors and based on stroke average.
BASEBALL: Utah Valley State Senior pitcher Jed Jensen has been honored for his performance in an upset of No. 17 Arizona State last Wednesday in Tempe.
Southern Utah
MEN'S GOLF: Southern Utah's Kenny Ebalo has been selected as an at-large competitor for the NCAA West Regional golf tournament, May 19-21 at Stanford University. Ebalo, a senior from Las Vegas, Nev. (Bonanza HS), is one of seven individuals selected to compete along with 27 teams in the regional. He is Southern Utah's first-ever NCAA postseason selection in golf. Ebalo led SUU and the Mid-Continent Conference with a stroke average of 71.5. He finished among the top-10 in seven of the 10 tournaments he played this year, including tying for the Mid-Con championship in regulation before losing a playoff.
Southern Utah University's softball squad will be hoping the third time is a charm this weekend as it heads to Independence, Mo., for the Mid-Continent Conference tournament. The Thunderbirds (22-23-1, 18-6 Mid-Con) wrapped up their third straight regular-season Mid-Con championship last weekend but hope to capture the tournament title and advanceg to the NCAA championships for the first time in school history. SUU opens the tournament Friday at 10 a.m. against fourth-place IUPUI (20-23, 10-10) at Adair Park.
