SEATTLE — Seattle high school standout Martell Webster declared for the NBA draft Tuesday but won't hire an agent.

Webster, a 6-foot-7 guard projected as a lottery pick in the June 28 draft, signed a letter of intent with the University of Washington. He can withdraw from the draft before June 21 and not lose his college eligibility.

Webster averaged 27.7 points and 10 rebounds last season for Seattle Prep. He was selected to play in the McDonald's All-America game and the Jordan Classic.

"My decision to make myself available for the draft at this time has been a very difficult decision because of my strong desire to attend the University of Washington and play for coach (Lorenzo) Romar," Webster said in a statement. "I have tremendous respect for coach Romar both as a coach and as a person."

Romar was out of town and unavailable for comment, a Washington athletics spokesman said. Last month, Huskies junior guard Nate Robinson made himself eligible for the draft.

Webster is the second prep player from Washington to be named to Parade Magazine's All-America first team. Marvin Williams, who recently declared for the draft after one season at North Carolina, was the first.

Webster is expected to attend the pre-draft camp in Chicago next month.
