Other Molen tidbits:

• Advice for aspirants: Prepare. Get an education — be it in film, fine arts, even business. Set a goal and work toward it, even if it's without pay. Do your best every day. Keep a good attitude. "Prepare yourselves, and then be dedicated to the end on the goal that you have. And whatever you do, don't be afraid to ask questions. Reach out."

• Current projects: A live-action film based on a Japanese animated series; another, based on the book "Legend of Holly Claus," Santa's daughter.

• Among his favorite films: "It's a Wonderful Life" and "The African Queen."

• Do you have to compromise your standards to be successful? "No. Some people do get caught up in the glitter and glamour . . . but you don't have to."
