The people of Utah and the many people that live with mental illness each and every day, have suffered a great loss in the passing of Vicki Cottrell, executive director of NAMI (National Alliance for the Mentally Ill) of Utah.
She was a courageous and compassionate woman. She led the fight to erase the stigma surrounding mental illness (brain disorders). She touched the lives of many people. She helped our family through an incredibly difficult time. She gave us hope. She gave us understanding. She gave us a voice! She taught me, through her example, that one person can make a difference.
I encourage everyone to take this opportunity to donate time, talents and monetary contributions to the cause that Vicki Cottrell dedicated her life to; education, support and advocacy for the mentally ill.
Vicki, we salute you. Thank you for your tireless effort. You will be missed.
