OREM The Utah Valley State College's Board of Trustees approved Thursday an addition to its bylaws that addresses ethical conduct.
The addition states that trustees, as public officers of UVSC, should recognize that their positions require trust and loyalty to the college, students, faculty and staff.
The governor-appointed board also has a duty to act in a manner that will "maintain the public's trust in the integrity of Utah Valley State College and to act compatibly with their obligations to the college," according to the addition.
Trustees should avoid actual and potential conflicts of interest between their public and personal lives, and comply with the Utah Public Officers' and Employees' Ethics Act.
They also should avoid or eliminate conflicts of interest. They should disclose conflicts and potential conflicts of interest to the college president and other members of the board, the addition states.
