LAYTON — Davis County's "Hearts for Arts" gala takes place tonight. The annual event is a fund-raiser for the Davis Arts Council.

"It brings in some badly needed funds for our organization," said Charlene Nelson, the council's executive director. She said that the money is earmarked for the county's youth arts education programs.

There will be silent and live auctions, a sit-down dinner and entertainment, Nelson said. "Liz Erickson will be performing and the evening will be emceed by Craig Bielik."

Erickson plays smooth jazz and Bielik is a local comedian, who recently appeared at Wiseguys in Ogden.

The gala will also serve as an opportunity to meet the members of the newly formed Davis Arts Guild, and Nelson will announce the new summer season for the Kenley Centennial Amphitheater.

The annual benefit for the arts in Davis County has been taking place for the past several years, Nelson said. "We've had a benefit in various forms for the past five years, but this is only the second year for the actual 'Hearts for Arts' benefit."

Tonight's gala will also be the first time in the county's new conference center. "We haven't had a conference center for something like this until last fall, so we're really excited about it," Nelson said.
