'Catfight' costs Snyder, Stack

According to various witness accounts, Stackhouse waited for Snyder in the parking area for the Jazz bus. A fight — lasting about 40 seconds according to multiple reports, or only about 10 seconds according to Stackhouse — broke out between the two, and ended only after Snyder hit the concrete floor. Snyder was said to be bleeding, but on Monday he suggested otherwise; Stackhouse, who initially claimed he was merely defending himself, said his neck was scratched.

"I think I was defending myself," Snyder said. "I had on all my stuff, my boots, and it was hard for me to be able to move and to be able to fight.

"This was the first time I've been in a fight," he added, "since I think grade school."

Snyder discussed the incident prior to the Jazz's Monday-morning practice in Utah, but once the suspension was handed down the Jazz did not permit him to speak further.

He also did not accompany the team on its flight later Monday to his native Los Angeles, where the Jazz play the Clippers tonight.

According to Snyder, "What really happened is I left the locker room, started chatting with another player from the other team, Devin Harris . . . and as I talked to him . . . somebody's holding (Stackhouse) back.

I'm like, 'What's going on?' "

Snyder was a holding a food container as he walked to the bus with teammate Kris Humphries about 30 minutes after Dallas beat Utah.

"I gave (the food) to Kris, and basically after that it was a fight," Snyder said. "He (Stackhouse) grabbed hold of me and just let it go right there."

Multiple Jazz-organization members said they saw Stackhouse standing near the bus' parking area.

"He had on his sweats, he had on his gym shoes," Snyder said.

"(Jazz assistant coach Tyrone Corbin) told me he'd seen him waiting for me to come down. I had no other way to get to the bus.

"Luckily I was talking," the 21-year-old rookie added, "because I don't know what would have happened if I would have came around that corner. . . . If I would have held all my stuff he probably would have ran up on me to fight me from there. But luckily I stayed up, and I could see him coming a little bit to try to put my stuff down.

"I still got some stuff ripped off of me, but at least I got my hands free so I wouldn't be at a disadvantage like that and be really hurt."

According to Monday's Fort Worth Star-Telegram, "Apparently during the game, Stackhouse thought Snyder threw a couple of elbows he believed were intentional, and he repeatedly told the referees about it."

But Snyder suggested he did nothing to provoke Stackhouse, who — while playing for Philadelphia during his rookie season — was once ejected from a game for punching at now-retired Jazz guard Jeff Hornacek.

"Honestly, it obviously had to be pride," Snyder said. "It was a lot of pride involved, because it had nothing to do with what was said on the floor, or physical play — because he wasn't guarding me.
