Millcreek residents are invited to an open house and town hall meeting regarding a water system upgrade, Wednesday, April 20, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Olympus High School gymnasium, 4055 S. 2300 East.
The water upgrade construction will begin this summer, with a 2007 completion date.
Current fire flow, water pressure and volume at fire hydrants in the area do not meet code, so fire suppression suffers. More than 90,000 feet of 8-inch and 12-inch water mains will be installed at an expected cost of $13.8 million. The city will pay somewhat more than $3 million, with the balance from proceeds derived through a special improvement district.
The share of each property owner in the district is based 50 percent on flat per-lot rate and 50 percent on taxable value. The median assessment per parcel is $1,688. Property owners can pay up front or finance for 10 years at an estimated bond cost of 4 percent, about $208 a year for 10 years.
The district includes residents living from 700 East to 2700 East between 2700 South and 3900 South. Call 801-468-2711 for more information.
