Tap dancing is slowly gaining momentum after a few years in a rut.
With the help of notables such as Savion Glover, the percussive theatrical productions of "Stomp" and "Tap Dogs," younger people are discovering the dance style that had previously been linked to Fred Astaire, Gene Kelly and Bill "Mr. Bojangles" Robinson.
Marsha Pitt wants to help spread the love of tap. She just released a DVD called "Tapology." It can be purchased on her Web site, www.marshapitt.com
This 30-minute instructional DVD sets its sights on anyone who wants to dance or, at the very least, stay in shape.
Symbol of Excellence winner Pitt, who began dancing while in elementary school and was an original cast member in the Broadway version of "Disney's The Lion King," uses the DVD to give viewers numerous one-on-one sessions.
She teaches the basic steps including shuffles, ball changes, brushes and various toe/heel exercises to help her viewers perfect the techniques.
The beauty of this concept is the fact that once the viewer learns these steps, he or she can put them together in any sequence and begin the road to tapping.
Even seasoned professionals will find "Tapology" useful. Think of world-renowned concert pianist Lang Lang practicing his warm-up scales.
"Tapology" is a stylish educational DVD that shows Pitt's love for tap dancing.
