Students driven to succeed

Ibrahim Batar, a student at Whittier Elementary School, smiles as he sits in the driver's seat of a race car while his fellow first-graders eagerly await their turn. Race car drivers brought their cars to the West Valley City elementary school on Thursday as part of a reward for students who completed their goals in the Accelerated Reader program. Students who read for at least 20 minutes each night received a pizza lunch with the race car drivers and a hands-on look at their cars. The car Ibrahim is enjoying is owned by Dana Combs.
