Ski resorts closing

It doesn't seem possible. With nearly 200 inches of snow packed on the slopes at some resorts, and a coating of snow statewide considered the best in decades, Utah ski resorts are closing.

Two resorts have closed — Sundance and Beaver Mountain.

Scheduled to close after Sunday are Brian Head, The Canyons, Deer Valley, Park City Mountain Resort and Powder Mountain.

Alta, Brighton, Snowbasin and Solitude have announced closings on April 17.

That leaves Snowbird, which has been the case for years, as the last resort to turn off lifts. It is scheduled to remain open through May. 30.

While final counts won't be tallied until after all the resorts close, predictions are that the 2004-05 ski season will be Utah's best.

Skier-day numbers are expected to hit between 3.5 million and 3.6 million, which is up from 3.4 million posted last season.
