SOUTH SALT LAKE The owner of an illegal kennel in South Salt Lake that was shut down by police has agreed to relinquish control of most of his animals, meaning they can now be adopted out.
Randal and Stephanie Evans, who ran the Hope Haven Animal Rescue, were charged last month in South Salt Lake Municipal Court with a dozen class B and C misdemeanors.
Police seized 35 cats, 26 dogs, three birds and two rabbits on March 16 after serving a warrant on the warehouse the Evanses were renting near 2600 South and 1000 West.
Of the animals seized, 26 cats, 23 dogs and two rabbits will be available for adopting. For information call the South Salt Lake Animal Shelter at 887-7217.
