Carlson Hotels Worldwide announced Tuesday that it has reached an agreement with Hospitality Properties Trust to take over management of 12 hotels operating under the Prime hotel brand, including one in downtown Salt Lake City.
The Salt Lake hotel at 215 W. South Temple will be rebranded as a Radisson Hotel & Resort.
In addition, three other hotels located in Nashville, Phoenix and Seattle will convert to the Radisson brand, while three hotels will be renamed as Park Plaza and five of the properties will become Country Inns & Suites.
Each hotel will undergo renovation costing $1 million to $4 million. Total capital expenditure on the 12 hotels will be roughly $37 million.
All work is expected to be completed by March 2006.
Sam Winterbottom, executive vice president of Carlson Hotels Worldwide, called the Salt Lake property a "terrific downtown convention hotel."
Minneapolis-based Carlson Hotels Worldwide includes five hotel brands, totaling nearly 900 locations in 69 countries.
