Senate Minority Leader Mike Dmitrich, D-Price, announced Friday the appointment of Sen. Gene Davis, D-Salt Lake City, as Senate minority whip following the resignation of former state senator Ron Allen, who previously held the post.

Allen announced his resignation earlier this month after accepting an appointment to the state's Public Service Commission from Gov. Jon Huntsman Jr.

Sen. Karen Hale, D-Salt Lake, will replace Davis as assistant Senate minority whip while continuing as minority caucus manager. Hale, elected in 1998, replaced former senator Paula F. Julander, D-Salt Lake, as caucus manager in the second week of the session when Julander resigned for health reasons.

Sen. Ed Mayne, D-West Valley, was appointed as a member of Executive Appropriations and Legislative Management Committees.
