Here we go again.
I agree that learning a language is an ordeal. That is not what is at issue. Due to the incredible number of illegal immigrants crossing into the United States, the number of people speaking only Spanish is making language the topic of debate.
Michael S. Tumblom (Readers' Forum, March 27) charges that Americans have an attitude of arrogance because abroad we "expect people to speak English for us and even criticize them when they don't."
Well, I am one American who firmly believes that "when in Rome, do as the Romans do." The attitude by a growing number of Spanish-speaking immigrants is one of arrogance. There will come a day when American citizens living in America will be held at a disadvantage if we do not speak Spanish.
