Disabled group protests cuts

The Disabled Rights Action Committee has joined other local advocacy groups to protest proposed federal budget cuts they say will hurt Utah's most vulnerable populations.

On Thursday the committee asked for explanations from Sens. Robert Bennett and Orrin Hatch, both R-Utah, on why they voted against a Senate amendment aiming to keep Medicaid whole. The amendment did pass, despite the Utah delegation's vote.

Neither Bennett nor Hatch provided any new explanations, but in his vote on the Senate floor, Hatch stressed a need to maintain "fiscal discipline."
