Tourism aid sidetracked but may get 2nd chance

Another factor is that SB7 also calls for a reconstituted travel council, and Harmsen said he worries that the new board membership won't be in place July 1. Huntsman may want to add another person to the council, but the council on Friday voted to recommend that the SB7 Senate version be passed without the additional-member language.

"I think we don't want to have too many changes or they could shoot down the whole thing," council member Lucille Tuttle said. "I think we should keep it simple."


Industry coalition plans Utah tourism conference

The Utah Tourism Industry Coalition and the Utah Office of Tourism will sponsor the Utah Tourism Conference May 11-13 in Cedar City.

The event, at the Sharwin Smith Conference Center at Southern Utah University, will feature keynote speakers, breakout sessions, workshops and other activities.

Keynote speakers include Gov. Jon Huntsman Jr.; Lt. Gov. Gary Herbert; Jeremy Harris, mayor of Honolulu, Hawaii; and Mindy Federman, editor of the Money section of USA Today.

The cost is $125 per person or $75 each for two or more people from the same company.
