I read the article by Lee Benson: "Too much hysteria over nuclear waste, Utah physicist says" (March 7). I agree completely. I had eight years experience as a consulting engineer to oversee the design and construction of the mechanical installations in a research center in the Netherlands with a "high flux-reactor."
The government of the Netherlands supported the nuclear energy research in order to get rid of coal and oil, which cause air pollution. The Netherlands discovered huge supplies of natural gas, and when there was no longer any need for nuclear energy, the interest waned.
