Draper residents can now get some city documents free of charge.
The City Council voted this past week to post city budget information and city codes on the city's Web site www.draper.ut.us. instead of charging fees for copies of the records.
"It reduces the number of requests, and it's a lot easier for the public," said Draper finance director Michael Sears. "It's just better customer service if we have more stuff out there."
The city's previous policy imposed a $25 fee for a copy of the city budget and charged $120 for a copy of the city's code book.
Sears added that the city will also be offering CDs with a downloaded version of the city code for $15 instead of making copies of the document.
"It just takes too long to get it and research it," he said. "A CD is just cheaper."
City officials did not, however, consider changing the fee policy for other records requests made by residents or by media companies. The city charges $30 per hour in labor costs to compile documents, with the first 15 minutes of research for free.
"We're not changing the fees. Fees are staying the way that they are," City Manager Eric Keck said.
