Thanks to Drew Chamberlain for his articulate clarity in covering TRAX's five-point failure (March 14). Similar kudos to your newspaper for de-horning an almost sacred cow.
Chamberlain lists a quintet of light rail's shortcomings as perpetrated by Utah Transit Authority spokesmen. UTA has exaggerated ridership figures, minimized its accidents, hidden its soaring costs, overstated its impact on congestion and ignored the obvious fact that TRAX has destroyed Main Street.
Some may label Chamberlain "kook," "regressive," and other terms of endearment that we early opponents of an ill-conceived light rail system wore in pain and in vain. But the truth remains. The overall damage TRAX has caused may be irreparable. We can and must stop its senseless spread into suburbia.
