Programs moved from Tabernacle

Musical programs and religious meetings hosted for decades in the Tabernacle on Temple Square have all moved as renovation work begins in earnest on the historic building.

Home to the Mormon Tabernacle Choir's weekly Sunday radio broadcast as well as a host of other musical and religious programs, the Tabernacle's exterior structure is undergoing a two-year seismic retrofit and update.

In a press release issued Tuesday, officials said all daily organ recitals, choir rehearsals and performances have been moved to the Conference Center north of Temple Square. Some patrons may find the move to their liking, since the larger venue will allow greater seating capacity for many of the events.

Daily organ recitals will now take place at 12:05 p.m. Monday through Saturday and at 2:05 p.m. on Sundays. Admission is free to those performances, as well as to Tabernacle Choir rehearsals, which are held from 7:30 to 9:30 on Thursday evenings. No tickets are required.

"Music and the Spoken Word" with the choir is presented Sunday mornings at 9:30 a.m., and no tickets are required. Seating is available to those 8 and older — doors open at 8:30 a.m. and the audience is to be seated by 9:15 a.m. t
