Krishna Temple to celebrate the Shiva Ratri on Saturday

SPANISH FORK — The Shiva Ratri, or "Night of the Lord Shiva" — one of the most auspicious days in the Hindu calendar — will be celebrated Saturday starting at 5 p.m. in the Krishna Temple in Spanish Fork, 8628 S. Main St.

Activities and events include classical Indian dance, drama, the chanting of the Lord Shiva's 108 names, music, feasting and a sacred bathing ceremony.

Australian Sri Keshava will present song and dance numbers of devotion with the traditional tabla, sarod, violin and harmonium.

Guest are invited and asked to bring vegetarian food to contribute to the feast or fruit and flowers. Admission is free, but the feast will cost $5 per plate. Donations go toward temple construction.
