Public has till March 21 to comment on Legacy

March 21 is the last day for the public to give input on plans for the Legacy Parkway.

After the public comment period, federal officials are ready to complete work on a supplemental environmental study of the road —— and issue a decision as to whether Legacy can be built.

While work will be done to address any concerns outlined in comments, officials with the Utah Department of Transportation are confident in their study of the roadway.

The road needs to be built, said UDOT spokesman Tom Hudachko. It's been studied enough, he said.

In 2001, the Sierra Club, Utahns for Better Transportation and Salt Lake City Mayor Rocky Anderson filed a successful lawsuit that halted construction of the road. UDOT was asked to review five environmental issues with the road and prepare a supplemental study for federal review.

With the public comment period nearly over, the department is one step closer toward approval of Legacy.
