Pablo Brenes had no interest in playing for Real Salt Lake, and more specifically in Major League Soccer, and Friday his wish was granted.

Real Salt Lake today announced that Brenes, who was selected in the third round of the 2004 MLS Expansion Draft from the MetroStars, has been transferred to Deportivo Saprissa in Costa Rica. In exchange, Saprissa transfers 24-year-old defender Douglas Sequeira to RSL.

In a separate transaction, Real traded Sequeira to fellow expansion team Chivas USA for a 2007 second-round pick.

Brenes, 23, wanted to return to his native Costa Rica to be in the eyes of his national team coaches.

Despite knowing he would likely be returning home, Brenes still honored his contract with RSL and spent all three weeks with the team during its training camp in Bradenton, Fla.
