OREM City officials have yet to submit information to the Utah County Attorney's Office concerning the alleged embezzlement of $215,000 from the Orem Fitness Center because the former employee who reportedly confessed to the theft is trying to repay the missing funds.
City Attorney Paul Johnson said information gathered over the past three months about the former employee will be forwarded to the county attorney's office this week.
The county attorney will then determine whether to file charges.
Johnson said the former employee has been working to repay the missing money, originally thought to be about $50,000. Investigators now put the figure at close to $215,000.
City Manager Jim Reams said the former employee has repaid $45,000 and intends to pay back the entire amount. The employee had worked for the city since 1990.
City officials say the former employee confessed to the theft after a routine interview with a supervisor in November 2004. He resigned the next day.
