Utah soccer fans get Real schedule

With opening day only 47 days away, Major League Soccer finally unveiled its 2005 schedule, a day Real Salt Lake's sales staff has been eagerly awaiting.

As previously announced, RSL's historic first game will take place April 2 at the NY/NJ MetroStars. The game has extra special meaning for Salt Lake players Clint Mathis and Eddie Pope, both former MetroStars players.

After a Week 2 visit to the Los Angeles Galaxy, Salt Lake returns home for its inaugural home game against Colorado on April 16.

In all, Salt Lake will play 32 regular-season games, 16 home and away. The MLS season runs from April 2 to Oct. 16, with the playoffs continuing on until the MLS Cup on Nov. 13 in Dallas.

For RSL forward Jason Kreis, he will no doubt have April 23rd circled on his calendar. That's the day the all-time leading scorer in league history returns to Dallas to face his former team after nine successful seasons.

Other noteworthy home dates for Salt Lake fans include July 4th against the MetroStars and July 23rd against FC Dallas. Both games will conclude with a fireworks extravaganza.

Fans wanting to see Freddy Adu will have to wait until Oct. 5, when D.C. United visits Utah for a Wednesday game.
