The Utah Senate will greatly benefit from Scott McCoy's recent appointment to their chamber. Stuart Merrill's recent letter to the editor (Readers' Forum, Feb. 9) reduces McCoy to one fact of his life: He is a gay man. Perhaps Merrill doesn't know that McCoy comes to the position with a resume filled with impressive government service, selfless non-profit work and a law degree from one of the most prestigious law schools in the country.
McCoy will be one of only six senators with a law degree; he will also be surrounded by elected officials who have been in office an average of 10 years. He will bring a voice that is educated, speaks of equality and represents all. I am proud he will be my representative.
