GUNNISON, Sanpete County A corrections supervisor who has been at the Central Utah Correctional Facility since it opened in 1990 was named warden.
Lowell Clark, Manti, who has been with the Department of Corrections for 21 years, was appointed Thursday as the sixth warden at the medium-security prison.
Jerry Jorgensen, who has been warden for about three years, was asked to step down, according to Anabelle Brough, director of institutional operations for the department.
"He has time off to make decisions as to his future with the department," Brough said.
Brough said Jorgensen had done a good job, but an organizational change was needed to make the prison operate as successfully as it can.
CUCF was locked down from Jan. 29 to Feb. 7 because of a gang-related stabbing. But Brough said the change of wardens had nothing to do with the lockdown.
