Utah County Preps of the Week

Ben Walker

Lehi Pioneers

Sport: Basketball

Class: Senior

Position: 6-foot-7 center

The numbers: Walker has been one of the valley's top post players since his sophomore season. He has what coaches call length because of his height, jumping ability and long arms. But he also has great offensive skills around the basket. In a recent road win at Carbon he scored 29 points. He poured in 22 in a big win last week against North Sanpete. Perhaps his best skill is getting the ball to open shooters when facing constant double-teaming from opposing teams. Walker is being recruited by several schools, including Utah Valley State College and the U.S. Air Force Academy.

Cali Nelson

Timpanogos Timberwolves

Sport: Basketball

Class: Sophomore

Position: 5-foot-10 center/forward

The numbers: In 18 games Nelson has made almost 54 percent of her shots. While averaging 10 points per Region 7 game, she's grabbing seven boards per contest and has blocked 29 shots this season. In a win over Pleasant Grove, she had 14 points and 12 rebounds. In a key victory over Lone Peak, Nelson scored 18 points and grabbed 13 boards. "Cali has turned into one of our most productive players," coach Robert Louder said. "If she doesn't get the ball in the offensive set, Cali will battle for the rebound and put the ball back in the basket."
