Brazilian Capoeira sets exhibition Saturday

SANDY — Brazilian Capoeira of Utah will host three popular video game characters for a rank advancement ceremony on Saturday, Feb. 5, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Crescent Middle School, 11000 S. 300 East.

Admission will be $5 for this exotic Brazilian marital art exhibition. Daring kicks and high-flying flips are set to live music.

Main Library to show international films

The Salt Lake City Library and the SLC Film Center will team up to provide free screenings of a variety of intriguing films from around the world.

The schedule will be: Feb. 6, Chinese films; Feb. 27, African films; March 20, Persian films; April 24, Russian films; and May 22, Japanese films.

All films will begin at 1 p.m. at the Main Library, 210 E. 400 South.

Davis art center sets annual competition

BOUNTIFUL — Bountiful/Davis Art Center's annual statewide competition will be exhibited Feb. 18 through April 1. This is one of the longest-running juried visual arts exhibitions in Utah, and the 2005 show will mark 40 years of highlighting the works of Utah's most creative visual artists.

The competition is open to all professional Utah artists. Original works of art in the following media will be accepted: watercolor, oil, acrylic, mixed media, drawings, graphics, photographs, weavings/textiles and sculpture.

Artists may enter up to three original works, completed within the past two years and not previously exhibited at BDAC. There is a non-refundable entry fee of $7 per work. BDAC members pay $5 per work. The entry dates for this year's competition are Friday and Saturday, Feb. 11 and 12 from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. No entries will be accepted after Feb. 12.

The juror for this year is Glen Richards, coordinator of the Utah Arts Council's Traveling Exhibition program. Results of the jury action will be mailed to all artists on Feb. 14. Awards include $400 for first place; $250 for second; $150 for third and honorable mentions.

There will be an opening reception honoring this year's artists selected for the annual competition on Friday, Feb. 18 at 7 p.m. The awards ceremony will begin at 8 p.m.
