Be my valentine — area libraries offering fun activities in February

The Sandy Library, 10100 S. Petunia Way, will celebrate Valentine's Day and have some special family programs during February.

Regular library hours are" Monday to Thursday, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Fridays and Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Here's a listing of event highlights:

All month: Library patrons of all ages can help decorate the library during regular hours in the "Love Your Library" activity.

Tuesday, Feb. 8, 7 p.m.: "Hedrick Family Antics," a puppet and musical performance by the Hedrick family, will be presented. It is based on "Where the Wilds Things Are" by Maurice Sendak.

Wednesday, Feb. 9, 10:30 a.m.: Celebrate the Chinese New Year with stories, songs, juggling, dancing and crafts. Register for the event by calling 944-7574. For ages 3 and up.

Wednesday, Feb. 9, 7 p.m.: Adults can learn about "Self Employment and Taking Control of Your Life" in a practical seminar at the library.

Thursday, Feb. 10, 1:30 p.m.: Celebrate the Chinese New Year with stories, songs, juggling, dancing and crafts. Register for the event by calling 944-7574. For ages 3 and up.

Thursday, Feb. 10, 7 p.m.: "Great Reads for Girls: A Mother/Daughter Book Club." Read "Granny Torelli Makes Soup," have discussions, crafts and other activities. For ages 8-12, with an adult.

Monday, Feb. 14, 4:30 p.m.: Kids, ages 5-11, can create a valentine in this "Hearts Afire" program.

Wednesday, Feb. 16, 7 p.m.: "Teen Book Club" will discuss "Sorcery and Cecelia."

Thursday, Feb. 18, 7:30 p.m.: Sandy Book Club will meet at the Sandy Library. For adults.

Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2 p.m.: "Max and Ruby's Special Storytime" will be for ages 2-6 and adults. The books by Rosemary Wells will be featured.

The Draper Library, 12441 S. 900 East, Suite 200, has several special activities during February.

Saturday, Feb. 12, 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m.: "Puppy Love." Those special young dogs from the Intermountain Therapy Animals' R.E.A.D. Team will be on hand to be read to. For families and kids of all ages. Pre-register by calling 944-7548.

Friday, Feb. 25, 4 p.m.: "No Girls Allowed!" Boys, ages 7 and up, can join this special group. Sign up by calling 944-7548.
