The American people gave Bush a fancy present for his inauguration — a pair of lead crystal hurricane lamps with hand-etched renderings of the White House.

The 18-inch lamps were made by Lenox and rest on a silver-plated base engraved with his name and the inauguration date. The shades are bordered with patterns found in the wall panels of the U.S. Capitol.

Vice President Dick Cheney received a similar set with the Capitol etched in the shades.

Members of Congress presented the lamps and other gifts on behalf of the American people during a luncheon.
