Benson column was ridiculous

I know the job of a columnist is to present opinions, not facts. But Lee Benson's column supporting the banks vs. credit unions (Jan. 17) moved from opinion to opinionated to ridiculous. The article should have been listed as satire. Benson obfuscated any potential for serious discussion with talk of Rolls, Microsoft and greed. Yet not a single fact. His "comparisons" of the two sank to the level of grade-school drivel — tellers who are friendly, prizes to sign up. If Benson's "issues" were the only issues, we could take a friendliness vote and forget the Legislature. But then, no one on the Deseret Morning News staff has written a legitimate comparison of the operations and rules, "surpluses" and "profits" that govern banks and credit unions. Never comparative facts. Only opinion.
