SYRACUSE Officials say a Wal-Mart Supercenter may soon be moving into the city.
"We have been working with a developer that has been in contact with Wal-Mart," said Syracuse City Manager Mike Moyes. "I would suspect within the next month or so we'll receive some applications and some official documents we can act on."
Over the past three months, controversy has surrounded a proposed Wal-Mart in Centerville.
Moyes admits some Syracuse residents will be unhappy with a retailer like Wal-Mart but says opposition is likely to be different from that in Centerville.
The site for the proposed Syracuse Wal-Mart has been zoned for commercial development for several years and restrictions for lighting, design and compatibility with surrounding developments will be strictly followed, Moyes said.
"One of our main concerns has been to preserve the open feeling of the city," he said. "We'll just have to deal with those issues (of opposition) as they come."
The site is a 40-acre parcel at the corner of 200 West and 1700 South in Syracuse.
