SPANISH FORK Utah's tiny Hare Krishna group has received confirmation from Sri Lanka $3,000 wired there this past week has been received, local leader Caru Das said Saturday.
The group will wire another $1,500 in donated funds on Monday to assist efforts following the tsunami that struck southern Asia Dec. 26. The total collected thus far is $5,000, he said. Donations have come from Oklahoma, California, Washington, Connecticut, Michigan, Ohio, Florida, Nebraska and Puerto Rico, as well as Utah.
The money goes to monks at a Hindu temple who are providing 10,000 plates of vegetarian meals daily for refugees through their Food for Life program. Before the tsunami the monks fed a couple hundred people daily. Now, Das said, the need is 100 times greater.
